The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

Being another one of RW Book club’s pick I just had to get it and the fact that two sisters authored this book already had me intrigued and excited to see how this thriller would unfold. This story of desire, resentment and a whole of bitterness took its time to reach the peak of the roller coaster; but once it did, it spiraled itself as one hell of a captivating ride with its many twists and turns. This light thriller may or may not engage you; either way you won’t put it down till you complete your journey with these women.

“This was the kind of home that was safely hidden from the eyes of those who could not afford to live this way. That's what wealth does for you, she thought. It gives you the means and the power to remain concealed from the world if you choose - or if you need to.”

Amber

She dreamt of a glamorous rich lifestyle, certainly not content with her with her current situation, Amber quenched for more, always. She had the desire to be someone significant, someone people would envy. She was proudly devious and enjoyed every moment of being malicious.

Amber had her eyes set on the handsome and rich Jackson Parrish. Him having a beautiful family with Daphne was just a bump in the road, which she would carefully cross when the time was right. Amber “accidently” bumps into Daphne one day and immediately creates a link her with, which was her ticket into her lavish life. Amber despised every part of Daphne’s life. But she hoped it would all change shortly. She creepily and steadily commands her way into the family, from spending weekends to the Holidays with them. This of course brings her a step closer to her prize, Jackson. Amber’s plan was set in motion and she knew if she played this out sensibly, all her delusions of a rich life would soon become reality.

Daphne

Daphne Parrish was perfect; every woman’s envy. She had the perfect marriage with two beautiful girls she loved, a beautiful mansion and all the designer clothing and handbags adorning her closet. When Daphne meets Amber she forms an immediate bond with her that alarms many around her. She is warned by friends but decides to see the brighter side of the situation and takes Amber under her wing. They start spending time together either shopping or going out for drinks, like one does with their girlfriends. Amber had created space in Daphne’s daughters’ lives and informally became their aunt.

Daphne founded and successfully ran a charity in the memory of her sister, who died of Cystic Fibrosis. This charity ends playing a considerable part in her life that changes the course of many of her relationships.

Together, Lynne and Valerie Constantine have very intricately created this domestic tale of two very strong willed women. The plot is so well thought of and seamless that thought of two writers penning their vision won’t cross your mind. Though starts of a bit slow, you wouldn’t want to put it down because you know those hairpin bends are waiting right around the corner to shake you up with the blinding curves.
