How to Find Love in a Book Shop by Veronica Henry

“There's a book for everyone, even if they don't think there is. A book that reaches in and grabs your soul.”

Books about bookshops and bookworms are steadily becoming a genre in itself and easily a favored one for me! You can’t help but close these books without a genuine smile on your face. This one was no different. “How to Find Love in a Book Shop” is the warm, the feel-good book you’d want to read!

“Nightingale books”is the perfect little cozy bookstore set in the idyllic charming small English town of Peasebrook. With its regular bunch of customers flowing in and out. Browsing through the rows and columns of shelves or mostly just stopping to by for a quick chat with the delightful owner of the store, Julius Nightingale. Julius, always open to exchange pleasantries and share his love of books with his customers. To him, it was never a just a business it was always more than a bookshop, it was home.

When Julius passes away, his daughter, Emilia takes over “Nightingale Books”. She does everything she can to keep the spirit of the store alive and to keep its memories from fading away with her father. But little does she know that keeping the store open for business might be slightly harder than she thought. As tempting as a buyout may seem, Emilia tries to keep the shop afloat by bringing in the new practices that reflected the warm essence of the shop.

As Emilia starts settling back at home and shop, she realizes that more than the books it was her father’s charm and bit of magic that gave “Nightingale Books” its many regulars, who brought in their own baggage and secrets. I loved how Veronica creates these little romances between the townspeople and all in some way or the other beginning at “Nightingale Books”. Julius meeting this free spirited American girl or June reconnecting with a lost love after years.

Bonding over the love of books or the joy of picking out the first Harry Potter for your child; showing off your favorite author or overhearing some bookish conversations; is all the part of the charm these quaint bookstores exude. This lovely book with Veronica’s effortless writing reminded me of the joy of just sitting back and relaxing with a book at the end of a long day.

“Because the great thing was you could stay in a book shop talking about books for as long as you liked and nobody thought it strange.”
